Controller Yee Comments on Budget Proposal
SACRAMENTO – State Controller Betty T. Yee today issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s budget proposal, which increases General Fund spending by just 1.4 percent, while increasing the State’s rainy day fund by 76 percent:
“By continuing to pay-down all forms of debt – including retiree health and infrastructure liabilities – and funding schools responsibly, the Governor honors the promises made to this generation without passing the costs on to the next.
“I commend the Governor’s commitment to successful implementation of the Affordable Care Act and his adult education initiatives to invest in our state’s workforce. Investing in our State’s greatest asset, our people, should include protecting the most vulnerable Californians. I hope we can find a way to do more for families living in poverty and to strengthen the middle class as our economy continues to stabilize.”
