SACRAMENTO — In response to the bombing at the Palm Springs Fertility Clinic yesterday and this morning’s press conference in Palm Springs, Controller Malia M. Cohen issues the following statement:
“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the violent attack that took place yesterday at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs. This senseless act of terrorism, which took one life and injured several others, is a stark reminder of the threats our communities continue to face.
My thoughts are with the victims, their families, the dedicated healthcare workers impacted, and the entire Palm Springs community as they begin to recover from this tragedy. I want to especially commend the swift response of our first responders and law enforcement agencies who are working tirelessly to investigate this heinous act and ensure the safety of all Californians.
Acts of violence targeting reproductive healthcare facilities are not only criminal, they are a direct attack on our values and freedoms. Californians must be able to access healthcare without fear or intimidation. I stand firmly in support of reproductive justice and the fundamental right of all people to make decisions about their health and their futures in safety and dignity.
As your State Controller, I will continue to advocate for policies that uphold equity, protect public safety, and support the resilience of our communities in the face of hate and extremism so that we can continue to move California forward so that everyone thrives.”
