SACRAMENTO — Today, Controller Cohen issued a statement celebrating California’s 175th anniversary of statehood:

“California has always been a trailblazer — a state unafraid to lead, to innovate, and to chart its own course. We are both the nation’s political maverick and its creative engine, setting the standard for progress that others follow. To serve as Controller in this moment is to carry forward that legacy — not only safeguarding our state’s fiscal health but also strengthening the foundation for the generations to come. I am proud that my career is part of California’s enduring story — one defined by bold leadership, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of a better future so that individuals and businesses can continue to thrive.”

As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Cohen independently oversees and manages California’s financial resources with integrity and transparency to build trust. The Controller is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources. The Controller has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds.
