2017 Events:

October 12-13, 2017: California Payroll Conference (Anaheim)

The California Payroll Conference provides payroll professionals with workshops on changes in payroll legislation and regulation, technology, and California Wage and Hour Laws.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) will conduct a presentation about the Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements.  They will also be available at an exhibitor booth throughout the conference.

October 10, 2017:  Filing California’s Holder Notice Report

The Unclaimed Property Division’s Outreach and Compliance Unit will provide an overview of California’s Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements, briefly discuss California’s two-report process, and then focus on filing California’s Holder Notice Report.

September 14, 2016: Small Business Expo (Los Angeles)

The Small Business Expos are free business-to-business trade shows that provide a place for business professionals to gather information on running a business and staying in compliance as well as learn about products and services to help their business grow.

May 22, 2017: Accounting Day 2017 (San Diego)

Accounting Day 2017 provides a full day of continuing education for accounting and finance professionals across a variety of industries.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) will conduct a presentation about the Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements.  They will also be available at an exhibitor booth throughout the conference.

The Unclaimed Property Division’s Outreach and Compliance Unit will provide an overview of California’s Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements, briefly discuss California’s two-report process, and then focus on California’s Holder Remit Report.

May 02, 2017: Road to Success: Small Business Symposium (Sacramento)

The Small Business Symposium is designed for small business owners to connect with local, State, and federal agencies for information and resources for running a successful business.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) will provide education and resources about the Unclaimed Property Law and reporting requirements.

March 23, 2017: Introduction to California’s Unclaimed Property Program Webinar

The Unclaimed Property Division’s Outreach and Compliance Unit will provide an overview of California’s Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements, review common terms, and discuss how to avoid common reporting and remitting errors.  

March 8, 2017: A Step-by-Step Guide to Reporting Unclaimed Property (Sacramento)

Hosted by the California Capital Financial Development Corporation, this workshop is free and open to the public.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) will provide education about the Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements.

In collaboration with Small Business Development Center of California and the Woodland Chamber of Commerce, the Davis Chamber of Commerce presents the Regional Business Summit. Attendees will connect with small business owners, entrepreneurs, and other business resource providers.

Join the Unclaimed Property Division’s Outreach and Compliance Unit for a webinar specific to filing the unclaimed property Holder Notice Report (due before November 1). Hosted by the State Controller's Office, Unclaimed Property Division, staff will outline the Holder Notice Report, address “off-cycle” reports, and discuss common errors.

September 30, 2016: California Chapter of the National Association of Tax Professionals Annual Conference (Long Beach)

The California Chapter of the National Association of Tax Professionals’ Annual Conference is designed to help tax professionals keep in touch with California tax authorities. Conference attendees will receive California Tax Education Council (CTEC) approved continuing education credits and have the opportunity to network with other State agencies and tax professionals. Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit will provide a brief overview of California’s unclaimed property and exhibit.

September 21-23, 2016: California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Annual Convention (Riverside)

The 2016 California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Convention “Innovation Starts Here!” will focus on new innovations sparking the creativity of entrepreneurs throughout California, technologies that are transforming industry and Hispanic millennials who are forging their own paths in business.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit, Unclaimed Property Division, will be available to answer questions about reporting unclaimed property to the State Controller's Office.

The California Public Finance Conference, hosted by The Bond Buyer, is where municipal finance leaders meet to address building a sustainable fiscal future. Interact with public and private sector leaders through networking opportunities and update sessions. The Get Connected: Small Business Conference is an annual event hosted by the Stockton Regional Public Agency Consortium. This one day conference is designed for small business owners who are interested in networking and doing business with local purchasing and procurement agents, public works departments, utility companies, economic development and small business assistance agencies.  Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit will be exhibiting at the conference.

August 18, 2016: Rancho Cordova Business Expo (Rancho Cordova)

The annual Rancho Cordova Business Expo is a “business to community” and “business to business” exposition organized by the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce. This event is free to the public and provides an opportunity for attendees to connect with local businesses. Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit will exhibit at the conference. Come by our booth to learn about reporting and claiming unclaimed property in California.

August 17, 2016: GO-Biz "Grow California Business" Summit (Sacramento)

This free summit features presentations and demonstrations of programs, services, and tools offered by the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. The summit features local small business resource partners and other State agencies tailored for small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Hosted by the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA), this conference provides Certified Public Accountants and financial professionals education on the latest issues and regulations. Key figures will update attendees on current and proposed standards for individuals new to government accounting and auditing.

January 14, 2016: Small Business Tax Seminar (Citrus Heights)

This free event is put on by several tax agencies to help small businesses start, grow, and succeed. Talk to experts from the Board of Equalization, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Franchise Tax Board, Employment Development Department, Social Security Administration, and the Unclaimed Property Division of the State Controller’s Office.

January 14, 2016: 16th Annual North State Economic Forecast Conference (Oroville)

Hosted by the regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the annual North State Economic Forecast Conference gathers a diverse crowd including businesses, utility companies, non-profit organizations, governments, universities, and community representatives from all over the North State region. Attendees are invited to participate in a tradeshow of local businesses and organizations, breakout sessions with local leaders, and networking opportunities.

2015 Events:

December 10, 2015: Sacramento Valley American Payroll Association Annual Payroll Summit (Sacramento)

The Sacramento Valley Chapter of the American Payroll Association (SVCAPA) brings awareness and education to payroll professionals around the State of California. A representative of the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) will give a presentation designed to educate attendees on California’s Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements. This year’s Summit offers attendees up to three Recertification Credit Hours (RCH) and networking opportunities. 

November 17, 2015: Roseville Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase and Mixer (Roseville)

This free event, hosted by the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, provides an inviting opportunity to meet and network with local businesses.  Representatives of the Outreach and Compliance Unit will exhibit at the conference to provide further information about unclaimed property.

September 18, 2015:  California National Association of Tax Professionals Conference (Sacramento)

The California Chapter of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) provides support, education, and networking opportunities for tax professionals throughout California.  At their annual conference, attendees will have the opportunity to earn five hours of continuing professional education (CPE).  A representative from the OCU will give a presentation designed to educate attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.  In addition, OCU representatives will exhibit at the conference and will be available to provide further information on reporting unclaimed property.

August 20, 2015: California Unclaimed Property Holders Seminar (Palo Alto)

The California Unclaimed Property Holders Seminar, hosted by Keane, is a free educational program highlighting current unclaimed property compliance and regulatory updates.  A representative of the State Controller's Office will attend as a guest speaker.

August 20, 2015:  Rancho Cordova Business Exchange (Rancho Cordova)

The annual Rancho Cordova Business Exchange is a “business to community” and “business to business” exposition organized by the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce.  This event is free to the public and provides an opportunity for the attendees to connect with local vendors.  Representatives from both the Outreach and Compliance Unit (OCU) and the Property Owner Advocate Unit will exhibit at the conference and will be available to educate attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law, the mandated reporting requirements, and the unclaimed property claims process.

August 13, 2015: CalCon Expo (Long Beach)

The 2015 California Construction (CalCon) Expo is designed for contractors, designers, construction professionals, suppliers, and construction workers.  Attendees will have the opportunity to network with government agencies, large general contractors and construction professionals, labor unions and apprenticeship programs, companies showcasing new technology, and business development organizations.  Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit will exhibit at the conference and will be available to educate attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.

June 1-2, 2015: California Accounting & Business Show and Conference in Los Angeles

The 2015 California Accounting & Business Show and Conference was a two-day educational and networking event designed for CPAs, tax preparers, financial planners, and business executives/owners. This event is the largest annual meeting of accounting professionals in California. Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit exhibited at the conference and educated attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.

March 10, 2015: Reporting Unclaimed Property Workshop in Sacramento

The State Controller's Office hosted a workshop on reporting unclaimed property. Workshop invitations were extended to members of the Quarterly Newsletter and Holder Outreach Events email subscription services. The workshop attendees included first time reporters and holders that were seeking refresher training for reporting unclaimed property. A representative from the Outreach and Compliance Unit gave a presentation designed to educate the attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.

March 26-27, 2015: California National Association of Residential Property Managers (CALNARPM) Conference & Tradeshow in Napa

The CALNARPM Conference & Tradeshow provides an annual educational and networking opportunity for real estate professionals. A representative from the State Controller's Office, Unclaimed Property Division gave a presentation designed to educate the attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements. In addition, representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit attended the conference as an exhibitor.

December 4, 2014: SBA’s Small Business Seminar in Citrus Heights

Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit gave a brief overview of the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.

October 21, 2014: Reporting Unclaimed Property Workshop in Sacramento

Representatives from the State Controller's Office (SCO) and the California Capital Women’s Business partnered for a workshop on Reporting Unclaimed Property. Representatives from the SCO gave a presentation that educated attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and the mandated reporting requirements.

October 2, 2014: Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase & Tradeshow Mixer

Representatives from the Outreach and Compliance Unit attended as an exhibitor and were available throughout the conference to educate attendees on the Unclaimed Property Law and mandated reporting requirements.
