Controller, Dr. Oz Kicking Off Statewide Health And Wellness Program

State Controller John Chiang, TV star Dr. Mehmet Oz and other officials are kicking off a pilot health and wellness program aimed at saving taxpayers' money.
Chiang and Oz are teaming up with State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), California Public Employees' Retirement System, Department of Personnel Administration and The California Endowment to host a Health Happens in the Workplace press conference and a short walk.
The news conference will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the courtyard of the Secretary of State's Office, located at 11th and O streets in Sacramento.
At the press conference, a study will be released focusing on preventable chronic illness in the CalPERS population. The report shows the cost of preventable diseases among state employees can be reduced through wellness programs.
