Media Advisory: Controller Chiang Helps Kick Off Free Tax Preparation Events

SACRAMENTO – State Controller John Chiang will launch the Sacramento area’s free tax preparation services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) for families and individuals with household incomes of $50,000 or less.  The Controller will be joined by community officials and leaders and volunteer tax preparers will be providing free tax preparation to working families and individuals at the event.

Free tax preparation also will be provided at the following Sacramento VITA locations: George Sim Community Center, 6207 Logan Street, on Saturday, February 4; and Grant Union High School again on February 11. Appointments may be made by calling 2-1-1.

More Sacramento VITA sites will be announced in the coming weeks. Statewide, more than 1,500 VITA locations will offer free tax preparation this filing season.  Taxpayers in Sacramento can find the nearest VITA site in their neighborhood by calling 2-1-1 or by visiting the Franchise Tax Board’s online locator at: https://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/vita/search/index.aspx.
