A Message about Audits from Controller John Chiang

"Welcome to our new Controller's Audit Program Web Pages!
"There is no function of the State Controller’s Office that is more important than the fair, accurate and effective auditing and oversight of public expenditures. Taxpayers should receive as much information as possible about where their dollars are being used - or misused. My office's audits and auditing oversight are key tools for digging out these facts.
"This new section, which highlights my office's major auditing programs and related services, is just the first phase of an ongoing project to add more audit-related information to our Web site. My goal is to make all of the operations of the State Controller's Office as transparent as possible, and this project is moving us another step in that direction."
-- John Chiang, California State Controller
As the State’s constitutionally independent fiscal watchdog, Controller John Chiang uses his audit authority to protect taxpayer dollars by preventing or identifying payments by State agencies that would be unallowable, fraudulent, wasteful or abusive. In addition, he provides fiscal guidance to local government agencies and school districts across California.
Did you know that....
