General Description:

The Office of the State Controller (SCO) is the destination Constitutional employer within the State of California. It is the “Fiscal Watchdog” of public expenditures and is fast becoming the hub of financial information for the State of California.

Scope of Position:
With direction provided by the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Outreach, the Office Assistant will provide support services to office staff members. The general nature of the work assigned will be routine clerical work, which may include typing, acting in support of the receptionist, and operating standard office equipment etc. Specific duties will include, but not limited to the following:
Duties and Responsibilities:
(Candidates must perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodations.)
- Assist in greeting office visitors;
- Take inventory of office supplies and equipment; assist in ordering efforts;
- Answer telephones; take and distribute messages;
- Schedule appointments; verify calendar events and scheduled appointments for Senior Staff members;
- Assist in receiving and distributing mail; prepare mail for postal delivery;
- Prepare and distribute facsimiles; provide duplication services to office members;
- Assist in updating and maintaining filing system; perform file mergers and/or update file contents to reflect current information;
- Operate a personal computer; use Microsoft software to discharge clerical assignments such as typing correspondences, sending and receiving electronic mail messages, maintaining Senior Staff calendars;
- Compile daily news clippings from various news publications.
- Prepare and distribute mail correspondence, proclamations, and e-mails.
- Assist in monitoring office equipment maintenance needs; schedule maintenance appointments; initiate equipment requisitions through the Business Services Office of the SCO;
- Develop and maintain contact lists;
