Controller John Chiang is working in partnership with community organizations to help provide free tax preparation services for low- and moderate-income taxpayers. Taxpayers will receive assistance from volunteers registered through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Education Mandated Cost Workshop

State Controller John Chiang, in collaboration with the California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO), is pleased to announce the Northern California information workshop on education mandates. The State Controller’s Education Mandated Cost Workshop with Schools, Community Colleges and Associates will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West, Sacramento, California. This workshop is the State Controller’s Office’s second this year on the education mandated cost process and related topics of interest to schools.

We strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to hear from state and school experts regarding how schools can better navigate through the mandate process and work together to improve the current mandate reimbursement system. State Controller John Chiang and CASBO, are proud in their effort to build stronger communication links between all interested parties to better support California schools.
