SACRAMENTO – Controller John Chiang today announced he has appointed Tina Lee as his Bay Area Director of Outreach and Innovation. Lee will head the Controller's outreach efforts in Northern California, working to engage citizens, non-profit and community organizations and businesses, and identifying additional outreach projects for the Controller to better serve Californians.
A special emphasis will be placed on strengthening the Controller's relationship with California's technology industry, a vital segment that the Controller views as the engine that will drive the State's economic recovery. Lee also will be advising the Controller on new ways to increase government transparency and operational efficiency.
Lee most recently served as Director of Innovation and Learning for ZeroDivide Foundation in San Francisco, where she led project teams in providing technology consulting services to philanthropic foundations and non-profit organizations to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities by fostering the strategic use of technology in ways that increase economic opportunity, civic engagement and health outcomes.
Prior to ZeroDivide, Lee worked as an Emerging Technologies Team Fellow in the City and County of San Francisco's Department of Technology under Jay Nath, who is now San Francisco's first-ever Chief Innovation Officer. In this role, Lee worked with Nath and the City's Chief Information Officer to promote the adoption of DataSF.org, the City's platform for non-confidential government data, which has yielded more than 60 applications created by citizens.
A lifelong resident of San Francisco, Lee received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political, Legal and Economic Analysis in 2001, and a Master of Business Administration in 2002, both from Mills College in Oakland. She received her Master of Education degree in 2010 from Stanford University, where her studies focused on how technology could be used to foster civic engagement.
Lee will split her time at a State office and the Hub Bay Area, a co-working space for start-ups with a social mission that's housed in the San Francisco Chronicle building at 901 Mission Street. Lee can best be reached at Tina.Lee@sco.ca.gov or follow her on Twitter @CA_SCO_Tina.
