Controller Appoints Wasserman to FPPC
SACRAMENTO – State Controller John Chiang today announced his appointment of Gavin Wasserman to the Fair Political Practices Commission. Mr. Wasserman's appointment is effective immediately, and his term will last through January 31, 2017.
Wasserman, 39, is an attorney and managing partner at Wasserman & Wasserman, LLP, and has practiced law in California since 1999. He is an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, having previously served as the group's Vice President and President of Barristers. He also is involved with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and served on the Board of Governors of the Japanese American Bar Association. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and later graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. He resides in Torrance.
This appointment replaces former FPPC Commissioner Ron Rotunda, whom the Controller appointed in 2009. Commissioners are limited to one term, and Rotunda's term ended on January 31 of this year.
When the Secretary of State, the Attorney General and the State Controller are members of the same political party, the State Controller selects a new FPPC commissioner from a list of applicants provided by another political party with a registration of more than 500,000. Mr. Wasserman's name was submitted by the California Republican Party in January.
