Workshops and Seminars

As the State Controller responsible for ensuring that the State can pay its bills, I believe my office should help educate working families, California businesses, local schools and other government agencies on the wide variety of important fiscal issues, State policies and tax laws that affect them on a day-to-day basis. My office collaborates with many other California organizations to make this information as widely available as possible.
Through seminars and free tax preparation assistance, we help low- and middle-income Californians take advantage of tax credits and refunds they have earned. Other events are aimed at small businesses, and include key topics such as basic information on sales and use taxes. We also help to provide schools and local agency officials with the tools, information and guidance they need to protect their funds while complying with State laws and restrictions.

Free Tax Assistance:
If your 2011 earnings were $50,000 or less, you may be eligible to receive free tax assistance from a certified tax preparer through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
