John Chiang Discusses ReadyReturn
Controller Chiang: “Hi, I am California State Controller John Chiang, and I am also Chairman of the Franchise Tax Board.”
Andrew: “And I am Andrew. I am a college student, and I am also a part-time employee at the Franchise Tax Board.”
Controller: “Andrew, do you know that taxes deposited in the General Fund buy textbooks, help build roads, provide medical care, and provide for police and fire protection?”
Andrew: “Well sure. I drive on those roads; I read those textbooks; and all of those other things.”
Controller: “Well, when I file my California income taxes, I use the 540 Long Form.”
Andrew: “I do nothing!”
Controller: “I have to block out an entire Saturday afternoon.”
Andrew: “I went skateboarding!”
Controller: “When I do my taxes…Wait a minute, you do nothing?”
Andrew: “No, I went skateboarding.”
Controller: “I know but…”
Andrew: “It’s ReadyReturn, John. You authorized it.”
Controller: “But…”
Andrew: “FTB completes my return based on the income information they already have. I just review it for correctness, e-file and get my refund deposited days later.”
Controller: “I know, but…”
Andrew: “It’s ReadyReturn, John. It’s not for you, but it might be for you [points at audience]. Log on to ftb.ca.gov and find out if you qualify today.”
